Farrukh Systems Celebrate 20 Years

Farrukh Systems Limited, manufacturers of Imposition Publisher, one of the world's leading imposition solutions, celebrated its 20th anniversary this month.

Farrukh Khan founded the company in May 1988 as a Desktop Publishing specialist, from his bedroom in his parent's house, on a council estate in North London. His parents were pleased to see him move out after just 3 months and see the company develop over the next 20 years into one of the worlds leading imposition software manufacturers, with over 7000 customers in 50+ countries.

"I remember my first DRUPA in 1990, taking a late beta version of Imposition Publisher around to Linotype, Scitex and the like. They were all interested but told me to come back when we had it working on a Mac." recalls Farrukh. Imposition Publisher is now available on Macs, PCs and Sun Solaris servers and is available in 5 languages.

Five DRUPA's later, Imposition Publisher comes is a wide variety of versions, to meet the disparate needs of the prepress industry. One of the first variations was Imposition Publisher Page Pairer, which was designed specifically to automate the newspaper industry. Instead of someone working with, say a 64-page file, waiting for all pages to be completed before being imposed, you have single pages arriving in a hot folder which are paired automatically. Whereas the needs of a digital printer are totally different again and are covered by Imposition Publisher Digital.

The anniversary dinner was held at the NOBU Japanese restaurant in Mayfair. Although Madonna, Bill Clinton and the like were not seen, the Farrukh Systems staff did enjoy the sumptuous food, particularly the famous Black Cod. That, along with sake and some amazing deserts ensured a good night was had by all.
