System Requirements ========================= Windows 9x or greater; NT4.0 or later P-120; 32Mb of RAM For Preview function - Adobe Acrobat Reader & Distiller Release notes for Imposition Publisher are available in the Release Notes file. This lists new features, recently fixed bugs and any known problems of this release. If you want to submit a bug, contact Technical Support, details at the end of this document. 3. Running the Software Installing the Software: ------------------------ 1. On the CD select the folder Workstation\Windows\. 2. Open the folder corresponding to the language you want. 3. Double Click the file setup.exe and follow the on screen prompts to install the program on your hard disk. Nb. (the client and server versions cannot run on the same machine) 4. Run the software by double clicking the Imposition Publisher icon. The installation dialog should appear. 2. Full Version - You must enter your dongle number, Release Code and set the version pull-down menu correctly. Demo Version - The Version pull-down menu should already be set to Demo. No dongle or other details are required. Click OK and you are away and running. 4. Three Steps to Using Imposition Publisher =============================================== Do you just want to dive in and use the program? You don't want to waste your time reading manuals - you are probably not reading this either. But if you are still with us. To quickly impose your work, you need 3 things: 1. A File List document (File|New FileList). Then add the PostScript files (Add Files...) to the File List. 2. An Imposition (or template) specifying the page order and positioning. You can create your own imposition (File|New Imposition) or use one of the standard BPIF or Stahl impositions supplied in the Impositions folder (File|Open). 3. A PostScript Output Device installed to print your imposed job (File|Print). This can be any PostScript laser printer, imagesetter, platesetter or any PostScript device. If you are printing to a device larger than A4 (Letter size for US versions), you need to specify the device size in the Printer Setup dialog and save your changes (Choose Printer Setup in the Print Dialog). This is the minimum you need to get going. There are many other powerful features in Imposition Publisher, such as the Print Marks Sets - including the ability to use any EPS file as a custom print mark - and many options in Printer Setup to precisely position your output. You may discover things as you go or you may need to check in the Help or the User Guide. 5. Documentation =================== The full set of manuals is provided on the CD in the Documentation folder. These documents are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. If you do not already have a copy of Acrobat Reader or Exchange installed, you need to download the free Acrobat Reader program from Adobe's web site (www.adobe.com). 6. Limitations of the Demo version ===================================== If you have downloaded the demo version from the internet or loaded Imposition Publisher from a Demo CD, the program runs with restricted functionality: Printing to File is disabled. Impositions and File List documents cannot be saved. Every sheet is printed with the text Imposition Publisher Demo. (This last restriction can be temporarily overriden if necessary. Contact Farrukh Systems and they will issue a temporary release code that will enable you to print a job without the demo text. Contact details below.) 7. The Evaluation version ========================== The Windows evaluation version provides you with a fully working version that will time out after 30 days from when it is first run. Follow the instructions above to install this version, choosing '30 day evaluation version' from the installation dialog. Please Note: If you move your system clock back once you have activated the Imposition Publisher 30 Day Evaluation, you have invalidated the terms of your software licence and the program will no longer function. Upgrading To The Full Version from the 30 Day Evaluation --------------------------------------------- If you are running a 30 day evaluation version to upgrade to a non-time limited licence, you need to purchase the required upgrade. On purchasing this you will receive a new release code. To enter this new release code 1. In the Installation dialog, change the version pull down menu to the version you have purchased. 2. Enter the Release Code you have been given. 3. Click OK. 8. Technical Support ======================= i. If you encounter any errors when printing a file from Imposition Publisher ii. Dongle Errors iii. Technical Support Details If you experience problems running Imposition Publisher contact our Technical Support team. Please make sure that you understand the basic principles of using Imposition Publisher outlined in the Quick Start guide on the Demo CD. If you encounter any errors when printing a file from Imposition Publisher: ----------------------------------------------------- Make sure that the input PostScript files are not corrupted. This accounts for most of the reported problems. Test your input files by downloading them directly to your RIP or by creating a PDF file if you have Adobe Acrobat Distiller installed. Dongle Errors -------------- If you encounter any problems accessing the dongle, make sure that the dongle is attached to the parallel port on the back of the server. Check that the dongle drivers have been installed successfully by looking at the 'Devices' Applet under 'Control Panel', and remember to restart your machine after the dongle drivers have been installed. If the automatic driver installation fails, run the DK2INST.EXE program (for the DK2 dongle) or the DK12INST.EXE program (for the DK12 dongle), both of which can be found in the folder containing the Imposition Publisher program. When the driver is loaded you will need to restart your machine for it to take effect. Once the machine is restarted, there should be a new entry in your Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs Applet specifying the dongle driver you have just installed. Also for the DK2 there will be a new Control Panel Applet named DESkey showing the versions of your system drivers.
